Life begins at 40? Well, for many women in Britain, it seems to be a fantasy only, for a survey has revealed that a staggering 28 per cent have stopped having sex long by then. And, in Scotland, nearly 38 per cent of women above 35 snuggle up with a book rather than a bloke, it has found. For those still enjoying a love life, children put a damper on proceedings – only 12 per cent of women with one offspring had fulfilling sex when they got the chance to make love, down from 41 per cent of childless women who regularly had an orgasm with their partner, according to the survey. The blame for these vanishing sex lives apparently lies with a grinding work schedule, the 'YouGov' poll found. The less work women do, the more fun they have in bed. More than two thirds of part-timers had orgasms, but the figure plunged to just over half for those in full-time work, the Daily Express reported. The survey has also revealed that 26 per cent of women are worried about losing their sex drive after the menopause. The same number feared that "the change" would have a negative impact on their memory. "Our lives have become more pressured and it may well be that women get more pleasure from writing a brilliant presentation, say, than sex. The drop in sex could partly be that women are in more high-powered positions. Time is short with the demands of work and children. "If there is any time left, couples may enjoy a romantic evening once a month. If the relationship is working, it becomes less important if there's a problem with sex. Closeness is more important," said Prof Paula Nicolson, a psychologist and the author of Having It All?
